Twisted Fairy Tales Reading Challenge
I had a whim to host a reading challenge, so I'm going to. It's a fairly simple one and the rules are this:
Read 4 books about twisted fairy tales by May 5, 2008
And here are the exceptions:
You may read a book that is not directly based on a fairy tale, but has a very fairy-tale theme (i.e. Sarah Beth Durst's Into the Wild)
You may read more than 4 (duh)
And I think that's it...
I intend to read:
Wildwood Dancing, Juliet Marillier
Tales from the Brothers Grimm and the Sisters Weird, Vivian Van Velde
The Princess and the Hound, Mette Ivie Harrison
Beauty, Robin McKinley
If you would please sign up using the little sign up thing below (I hope it works).
In about two weeks I'll set up a new post for you to link to your reviews and such.
The End.

Schweet! I got Wildwood Dancing this past weekend, and I'll have to hunt down some other good ones. Thanks Ennilee!
ReplyDeleteOoh, cool! I definitely want to participate. I just need to think of what I'm going to read.
ReplyDeleteHere I am, commenting because I signed up.
ReplyDeleteYay! Great challenge :D And I'm so happy you chose to make a grey banner - it totally matches my blog ;) *thinks up books for the challenge*
ReplyDeleteI hope I have enough twisted stories in my small collection of books...*doubtful glance*
Yay! I joined. Now I just have to hunt some fairy-tale related books to read...
ReplyDeleteI'm reading...
ReplyDeleteEver
Wildwood Dancing
Nobody's Princess
and another... but I can't think of it.
I'd like to join! (I was actually thinking of hosting a challenge on the same subject somewhere in the near future.) So far I have:
ReplyDeleteThe Swan Maiden by Heather Tomlinson
A Curse as Dark as Gold by Elizabeth C. Bunce
The Swan Kingdom by Zoë Marriott
Beast by Donna Jo Napoli
I'm surprised I was able to come up with so many I haven't read!
I'll have to create a list...
ReplyDeleteWoot!
ReplyDeleteHey Fee, when does EVER come out?
Hi Enna! I listed your challenge here on my blog: A Novel Challenge to give you some "free" advertising! Hope you get lots of interest!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I can't join in formally but I'd like to tell you that Beauty is one of my all time favourites. Great, great story.

I am pretty sure I will be joining in. I need to go home and see what twisted fairytales I have on my shelf already and make up my list. Then I will be joining up!
ReplyDeleteI'm so in. For some reason I have been in a fairy tale mood. I just finished reading Into the Woods by Lyn Gardner.
ReplyDeleteSpiff! Most excellent, Enna Isilee. (What was the consensus on how to spell your nickname? Do you have a preferred spelling?) I'll have to give some consideration to my list first, but I expect I'll be joining.
ReplyDeleteIt comes out May 6th, 2008. I know, a day after the challenge ends. I have an ARC, though. Does that count? I hope so... I really want to read it for the challenge, since I have so much to read.
ReplyDeleteGreat challenge. I love fairy tales. :)
ReplyDeleteOf course it counts, Fee! I just wanted to know.
ReplyDeleteSo... many... people...
Nifty.
Okay...
Wendy: Thanks much! I'm all for advertising ;)
Heather: I've never read BEAUTY before, and I've alwasy wanted to. Thought this would make a good opportunity.
Cuileann: Ya know, I'm not sure. I'll have to ask Shannon, but until then...
And thanks y'all!
This sounds like fun! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteEnna Isilee:
ReplyDeleteCan I raid your book stash for the challenge?
*eye roll* If you must. I have some I want you to read.
ReplyDeleteFound you via erin and shelf-elf. Mind if I join in? (Let me know if my choices are not quite fairy tale enough...)
ReplyDeleteI signed up! This is my first Reading Challenge. :D
ReplyDeleteI think I will be reading:
ReplyDeleteTwice Upon a Marigold by Jean Ferris
The Salamander Spell by E. D. Baker
East by Edith Pattou
Mira Mirror by Mette Ivie Harrison
Enna - I was wondering, do you want us to write reviews of the books we read for the challenge and post a link to them somewhere or something? I will most likely review the ones I read anyway, but I was just thinking it would be a nice and easy for people to keep track of what everyone else reads.
ReplyDeleteYeah. I know it was kind of lost in the post but I said: "In about two weeks I'll set up a a new post for you to link to your reviews and such."
ReplyDeleteSo, yes.
Ah-ha! OK, that's good to know. Shows how unobservant I can be that I didn't even notice that bit, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteHaha - I like the way you *formatted* your email on the sidebar... clever ;)
ReplyDeleteI just wandered into your challenge. This looks like so much fun. If I can find the books, I will be back with a link. Thanks for hosting.
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun, my list:
ReplyDeleteBook of a thousand words
The blue sword
The squire's tale
Sun and moon, ice and snow
Stupid question? How do I put the banner on my blog?
Thanks
If you click on the banner of your choice it should take you to a white page with only that banner, if you copy that URL and then go to your blog layout you should be able to create a new page element "picture" and put it in the sidebar. Or if you want to put it in a post then you do it similarly. You copy the URL and then while creating a new post click the "insert picture" button and pase the URL.
ReplyDeleteI just found you and want to join in the fun. My list is posted.
ReplyDelete*smiles*
Kim
east is an AMAZING book. you'll love it. the princess and the hound is also really good.
ReplyDeleteCount me in! I love anything fairy tale related and I hope it's ok to cross over books from other challenges.
ReplyDeleteI try to read these:
ReplyDeleteBook of a Thousand Days, Fairest, Just Ella, and Beauty.
These are all that I own, besides The Goose Girl.
but I've read so many of them already! But I've never done a "book challenge"...I'll think about it...
ReplyDeleteI suggest Briar Rose by Jane Yolen and after you read Beauty you should read Rose Daughter (which is also about B& the Beast.)
Here is my list.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting!
