And thus my will cracked and shattered with a pronounced TWEET!

I have noticed that tweeting and blogging go hand in hand. For many many moons I have denied the fact that I even had a Twitter account. But now I am embracing it.

I'm not going to keep you posted on what I'm eating for breakfast, or what the weather is like. But I do hope to give little shout-outs about contests, author signings, and book releases/announcements.

That's it. It's going to be purely book related. That's IT.

And now I am going to say it.*deep breath*

I am on twitter. Will you be my friend?

Toads and Diamonds
By Heather Tomlinson

Diribani has come to the village well to get water for her family's scant meal of curry and rice. She never expected to meet a goddess there. Yet she is granted a remarkable gift: Flowers and precious jewels drop from her lips whenever she speaks.

It seems only right to Tana that the goddess judged her kind, lovely stepsister worthy of such riches. And when she encounters the goddess, she is not surprised to find herself speaking snakes and toads as a reward.

Blessings and curses are never so clear as they might seem, however. Diribani’s newfound wealth brings her a prince—and an attempt on her life. Tana is chased out of the village because the province's governor fears snakes, yet thousands are dying of a plague spread by rats. As the sisters' fates hang in the balance, each struggles to understand her gift. Will it bring her wisdom, good fortune, love . . . or death?

Enna Isilee's note: SO excited to get this one!

Birthmarked
Caragh M O'Brien
After climate change, on the north shore of Unlake Superior, a dystopian world is divided between those who live inside the wall, and those, like sixteen-year-old midwife Gaia Stone, who live outside. It’s Gaia’s job to “advance” a quota of infants from poverty into the walled Enclave, until the night one agonized mother objects, and Gaia’s parents are arrested.

Badly scarred since childhood, Gaia is a strong, resourceful loner who begins to question her society. As Gaia’s efforts to save her parents take her within the wall, she herself is arrested and imprisoned.

Fraught with difficult moral choices and rich with intricate layers of codes, BIRTHMARKED explores a colorful, cruel, eerily familiar world where one girl can make all the difference, and a real hero makes her own moral code.

I'm Trella. I'm a scrub. A nobody. One of thousands who work the lower levels, keeping Inside clean for the Uppers. I've got one friend, do my job and try to avoid the Pop Cops. So what if I occasionally use the pipes to sneak around the Upper levels? Not like it's all that dangerous - the only neck I risk is my own. Until I accidently start a rebellion and become the go-to girl to lead a revolution. I should have just said no...

Enna Isilee's Note: I got this from my local Barnes and Noble last week(early, I guess). I'm SO excited to read it!

Shannon Hale Covers Part II-- Spanish Edition

I have a FABULOUS reader, Maria who saw my post on the fun UK Shannon Hale covers and she sent me these!

Aren't these EPIC? I love Love LOVE the Enna Burning cover! Even though I'm generally against people on covers, I just think it's so intense.

Thanks, Maria!

Here's just a bonus, the Princess Academy French edition. Don't like this cover.

Think Before You Post

Have you guys seen this? Creeeeepy. But I do agree with the message it's trying to convey.

UK Shannon Hale Covers

You may have noticed that I like abstract covers compared to realistic covers, which is why I was so happy when I discovered these:

I think my favorites are the Enna Burning cover and the Book of a Thousand Days cover. Of course, those also happen to be my favorite books.

Naturally, though, I much prefer the original EB and B1000 covers. I prefer all the original covers. But I like these better than the photographs.
Which one do you like best? Y'all think I should have a contest giving one of these away?

Check me out! How cool am I?!

This made my day! Thank you Random Buzzers!

**The Dead-Tossed Waves-- Carrie Ryan

Release Date: March 7, 2010
Pages: 404
Genre: Horror
Rating:

Official Website:

Summary:
Gabry lives a quiet life. As safe a life as is possible in a town trapped between a forest and the ocean, in a world teeming with the dead, who constantly hunger for those still living. She’s content on her side of the Barrier, happy to let her friends dream of the Dark City up the coast while she watches from the top of her lighthouse.

But there are threats the Barrier cannot hold back. Threats like the secrets Gabry’s mother thought she left behind when she escaped from the Sisterhood and the Forest of Hands and Teeth. Like the cult of religious zealots who worship the dead. Like the stranger from the forest who seems to know Gabry.

And suddenly, everything is changing.

One reckless moment, and half of Gabry’s generation is dead, the other half imprisoned. Now Gabry only knows one thing: she must face the forest of her mother’s past in order to save herself and the one she loves.
Review: What can you say about zombies? Except that THEY ROCK!

Carrie Ryan is brilliant. Seriously. It's easy to make a zombie movie intense, because you're always lookin' at 'em. It's much harder to make a book intense like this one. Just like in The Forest of Hands and Teeth you had the constant presence of the Unconsecrated (now called Mudo) in this book that just gave me chills! (especially at 1 in the morning)

I didn't like this book as much as Hands and Teeth, probably because I wanted to know more about Mary! This book takes place something like 30 years after Hands and Teeth ends. I wanted to know what happened to Mary! The book did briefly summarize what she'd gone through, but not enough! Not enough!

Gabry was a delightful character, just as conflicted as her mother was in H&T but just as brave deep inside.

*sigh* I love these books. They're intensely horrific, while not being inappropriate.

Way to go Carrie Ryan, you've done it again. I sit on pins and needles for your next book in the series and your 3 short stories.

P.S. Although, Carrie doesn't really seem to like love interests...

P.P.S. It's my half-birthday!

Fairy Tales to Fall For

As most of you know, I LOVE stories about fairy tales. A few years ago I hosted the "Twisted Fairy Tales" reading challenge and it was so fun! I have a new twisted fairy tale to make you guys aware of.

Have any of you read The Swan Maiden by Heather Tomlinson? I LOVED that book. Which is why I'm excited to announce...

Here's a summary of the story:

Will it bring her wisdom, good fortune, love . . . or death?

It takes place in India and sounds really good. I'm excited to get my hands on it on March 30th.

Are there other new twisted fairy tales coming out or that recently came out? Or, do you have a classic that's your favorite? Let me know in the comments!

Cover Wars-- Carrie Ryan Edition

Lots of people do this "Cover Wars" thing, and I found a good one, so I'm gonna do it to.

Here are the US and UK covers for Carrie Ryan's The Forest of Hands and Teeth.

US

UK

Which do you prefer? For me it's hands down the UK cover. I just think it's more... eery. I'm actually waiting a month so that I can buy the sequel, The Dead Tossed Waves, from the UK. Here's TDTW covers side by side:

Rebirth of the Theatre!

I know not many of you have been reading my blog for two years. But if you have, you may remember Actress Antics, my Theatre blog.

Well, it's back!

I find it ironic that I would bring it back now, when I am doing relatively little theatre, rather than last year, when my whole life was theatre. But, there you go.

However, unlike Squeaky Books, I am not going to feel any pressure to update this blog on a regular basis. I'm just gonna update when I have something to update it with.

And there you go. Welcome to Actress Antics

Comedic Research

I haven't had much time to read or post lately, because (aside from the time doing homework) I have been spending my time researching comedic plays. I'm looking for a really good (but fairly simple) comedic play. Here's what I have/want to read so far

Jitters, by David French
Laughing Stock, by Charles Morey
The Nerd, by Larry Shue
Strange Boarders, by George Batson and Jack Kirkland
All Because of Agatha, by Jonathan Troy
Amateurs, by Tom Griffin
The Secret Affairs of Mildred Wild, Paul Zindel

Do you know any really great comedic plays? Have you heard of these plays? Have you seen these plays? If you do/have, please post your comments!
