It's my 6th Blogoversary!!

It's my 6th blogoversary!!

It's hard to believe that little 'ol Squeaky Books is really 6 years old. I've been neglecting the site lately, but hopefully that will change soon. Or... how about right now!

I've done a guess the cover contest for a few years for my blogoversary, but this year I decided to shake things up. This year it's a GUESS THE AUTHORS contest!

That's right, instead of book covers, I've got author pictures. You need to guess who the author is and fill out this form. To make it easier, these are all of the author's profile pictures on Goodreads.

Author friends! Sorry if you didn't make it onto this. I literally had a list so long that I had to randomly select 12 people to make it on. So... blame Random.org!

Ready? Guess away! Winner will get a $10 Amazon gift card! Just to keep things fresh, I'm not going to say when this is going to end. It'll end WHEN I FEEL LIKE IT! Muahahaha! If there are any that you just can't get, leave a comment! If people agree with you, I'll give a hint. :)

Five Year Blogoversary!

I almost can't believe it. I've made it to my five year blogoversary! How crazy is that?!  Tomorrow is my actual blogoversary, but since I don't post on Sundays, we're going to celebrate TODAY!

To be completely honest, I feel like Squeaky Books has always been a part of my life. It's hard to remember when I wasn't blogging. And I can't imagine ever stopping blogging. So here's hoping for at least another five years!

If you've been around for my blogoversary in the past, you know what's coming: a guess the cover contest!!

There are only 12 covers this year, but I did my darndest to make them REALLY hard! Check out the images, then check out the rules/hints below!

HINTS:
  • All of these books have not yet been released (as of 7-14-2012)
  • They will all release in 2012 or early 2013
  • All of these books are US covers (so far as I am aware)
  • Not all have been featured on Squeaky Books, but some
  • They are all books I REALLY want
Those are your only hints! And there are two prizes!

Prize #1 Fastest 100%
The first prize will go to the first person who gets ALL of the covers correct.

Prize #2 Random
I will then randomly select a winner from all participants. The more covers you get right, the more entries you get!

Both winners will get to choose any book they want from Amazon.com or TBD under $13.

Here are the details:
  • Giveaway open 7/14-7/29
  • Open International!
  • You MUST have at least one cover correct to be entered
  • You must fill out THE FORM to enter
  • DO NOT LEAVE ANSWERS IN COMMENTS
  • Multiple submissions WILL NOT COUNT. If you enter more than once, only your first submission will be counted. If you're going for the 100% prize, you have to have them all at the same time. Much more challenging that way, I think.
I'm really excited to see how y'all do! I worked really hard to try and stump you!

Anyone interested in a create-a-cover contest?

I'm feeling inspired. I love making fake covers for books. For example, Jodi Meadows is having a create-the-cover contest for the sequel of her book Incarnate (which I loved). I was too late to enter officially, but I was inspired to create this:

Isn't that fun?! (and yes. I'm so ridiculously proud of it that I water-marked it. So there)

And so, I want to have a create-a-cover contest. I'd like the focus to be sequels, preferablly those without covers (like Incarnate 2, Days of Blood and Starlight, Shades of Earth, Everbound, etc.).

BUT, I'm aware that making these covers takes a lot of time. So my question to you is:

What prize do you think is worthy of a create-the cover contest?

I'm thinking a pre-order of whatever book you create, and any previous books in paperback. Eh?

    Thoughts?

EDIT: I polished up the cover for a contest (which I won!) here it is:

    Incarnate Theatre Treasure Hunt Activity!

So I didn't keep it a secret how much I LOVED Incarnate by Jodi Meadows, but now I'm going to shout it to the world!

Welcome to the INCARNATE Theater Treasure Hunt!

This week, 48 bloggers are celebrating the release of Incarnate by Jodi Meadows by participating in a treasure hunt with clues, activities, and lots of prizes including signed books and handknit fingerless mitts. You've reached an ACTIVITY blog, which means on this page, you can gain extra entries for Jodi's grand prize drawing by completing my activity and filling out the accompanying form. Then head to the next activity for more Incarnate fun! There are over twenty Incarnate activities around. The more you do, the better your chances of winning the grand prize.

For more information on the INCARNATE Theater Treasure Hunt, check out Jodi's post. The Grand Prize gets you: A signed, annotated hardcover of INCARNATE; handknit fingerless mittens; a first-edition hardcover of one of my favorite books; a (possibly dead) character named after you in Incarnate 3 (spelling adjusted for worldbuilding); a handful of INCARNATE stickers.
Two runners up will get: A signed hardcover of INCARNATE; handknit fingerless mittens; a handful of INCARNATE stickers.

My activity is similar to the "guess the cover" contests I do, but in this case there's a butterfly theme! I found 12 covers that have butterflies on them (most are YA, by the way). I'll show you the entire cover, with the title and author blurred, and you just need to tell me the title! Each one you get right will give you an entry into the GRAND PRIZE giveaway!

But I'm also doing a separate giveaway of a finished copy of INCARNATE. If you get AT LEAST TEN (10) of the covers correct you will be entered to win a copy of Incarnate just from me. Cool beans, eh? OPEN INTERNATIONAL!

All right, so here are your covers. You can fill out the form here or below the image. And below the form are some links to MORE activity bloggers! Good luck!

What are YOUR favorite 2011 YA releases?

It's that time of year again! At the end of this year I'll post my favorite books that I reviewed in 2011. But before then, I want to hear from YOU!

That's right. PLEASE let me know your top 5 books that were released in 2011! If they haven't been released yet (but will still be released in 2011), you're welcome to list them as well. If you can't think of 5, you can list as few as 1, but you can't list more than five. Sorry!

I'm hoping to compile a list, and then use the most nominated titles for some Holiday-giveaway fun times!

Also, to one lucky nominator I'll give away a random prize pack of books and swag! You must be in the US to win the prize pack, but international peeps are more than welcome to list they're their (EDIT 12-16-11: woah! That typo was there for over a MONTH?! You've gotta tell me about these things peeps! there their they're is one of my pet peeves! *ashamed*) favorite 2011 US releases (The Holiday giveaway WILL be open internationally, just not this one). Prize pack will have 2-3 books/ARCs and some swag (including book-themed t-shirts and these really cool... well... you'll find out if you win).

Sound good? These nominations will be open until December 16th and I'll put the list together that weekend, and get the BIG holiday giveaway started on the 19th! That'll be after finals, and I should have my brain together.

Fill out the form below, or click here! Be sure your nominations have been/will be released in 2011! So Everneath by Brodi Ashton (which comes out 1-24-12) doesn't count. And don't just list books you want to own, list your FAVORITES. Remember that 2011 started 11 months ago. People have  a tendency to list only books released in the last 2-3 months.

Curious in seeing the list that Squeakers (that's you!) made last year? CLICK HERE to see it!

    Blogoversary Results & Winners!

Hello peeps! I'm home, and it's time to announce the results and winners of my blogoversary contest. You can see the original post and images here. But now, answers! I'll let you know the covers in the order they were listed in the contest, and then let you know how many people got them right.

    #1 Dark Inside
55% of people got this right, and no one got it wrong. Either you guess and got it right, or you left it blank.

    #2 Incarnate
90% of people got this right. Impressive! It does have a very memorable (and BEAUTIFUL) cover, doesn't it?

    #3 Forest Born
58% of people got this one right, which really surprised me. With all my Shannon Hale stalker-ness and crazy fandom, I thought EVERYONE would know this. I have failed you all. Did the "not yet released" clue throw people off? Because technically, this specific book isn't released yet.

    #4 Tris & Izzie
This is the one that people got right the most. 94% of you got it. Great job! I even tried to pick a really unremarkable part of the cover.

    #5 Midnight in Austenland
Only 32% of people got this one. I don't blame you. I haven't mentioned it on the blog, and it is technically an adult book. But it's Shannon Hale, so OF COURSE I had to include it.

    #6 Isle of Blood
42% of people got this right. This series isn't uber-popular, but I really liked the first book. There aren't many horror books I can read, but when I can read them, I usually like them.

    #7 Prized
68% Got this right. Birthmarked was one of my favorite books of 2010. I can't WAIT for this one!

    #8 Dust & Decay
Zombies FTW! 42% got this right. I'm SOOOOO excited to read this.

    #9 The Death Cure
Only 39% got this right. Many people got it confused with A Million Suns by Beth Revis, or Ascend by Amanda Hocking. I can see that. But it's THIS book that I'm the most excited about.

    #10 Enshadowed
I was so very proud of this one. The little clip I took is just of the pendant she's wearing. Can you see it? Just above the L in Kelly. I was very satisfied. This was the one that people got the least. Only 29% got this. Tee hee. I'm so clever.

    #11 The Pledge
I'm only so-so when it comes to Derting's Body Finder series, but I love me some dystopia. So I'm excited for it. 58% got this right.

    #12 The Fox Inheritance
Remember how I recently gushed over how much I loved the first book in this series? So of course this is on my list of books I want to own! 87% got this right!

    #13 Everneath
Many people thought this was Anna Dressed in Blood which I guess I can understand, but this cover is GORGEOUS! It may be the prettiest cover I've seen all year. AND it's by a local author. I can't wait. 61% got this right.

    #14 Drink, Slay, Love
I LURV me some Sarah Beth Durst. She's never failed to amaze me. 74% got this one.

    #15 A Monster Calls
This one was pretty widely missed as well. Some people thought it was Wolfsbane, and Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. You either love Patrick Ness, you hate him, or you've never heard of him. At least, that's my experience. 39% got this right.

#16 Daughter of Smoke and BoneI had a chance to read this book a few weeks ago and ADORED it. It's in the running for my favorite book of 2011. It's got some crazy stuff in it, but I LOVED it. 52% got this one right.

But NOW you want to know winners, eh? All right. First off, there were only FOUR people who got ALL of the books right, and they are:

    Amanda
    Brooke
    TheGirlOnFire27
    Vivien

The time difference between the first person to get it right and the second was only NINE minutes. So close! But the winner is...

    Vivien!

And the randomly selected winner (who only missed one, BTW) is...

    Marg @ Clockwork Reverie

Both of them get their choice of any book from Amazon.com under $13.

Thanks to everyone who answered. This was fun for me, I hope it was fun for you!

    4 years and going strong

It's my four year blogoversary! How crazy is that?! FOUR YEARS! True, my blog didn't really kick it into gear until about 18 months ago, but still. FOUR YEARS! I'm pretty excited about that. I was also excited to realize (maybe I realized this before) but my blogoversary also marks the day I first met/saw Shannon Hale! It's been FIVE years since that. Crazy!

I can't imagine ever stopping blogging. Yes, I love all of my readers, but the blog has just become such an important part of my life that I can't believe it could ever stop. How would I remember what I read? How would I remember how I felt about what I read?

And since I'm so excited about this, I've decided to have a contest! It's been over six months since I did my last guess-the-cover contest, so that's what we're going to do!

Last time you guys were WAY smarter than I gave you credit for, so this time I've made it REALLY HARD. You only have 100x100 pixel squares, and I tried to pick obscure peices of the covers. Here they are! Look below for some hints and contest details.

    HINTS:
    • All of these books have not yet been released (as of 7-15-2011)
    • They will all release in 2011 or early 2012
    • All of these books are US covers (so far as I am aware)
    • Shannon Hale may be involved
    • Not all have been featured on Squeaky Books, but some
    • They are all books I REALLY want
Those are your only hints! And there are two prizes!

    Prize #1 Fastest 100%
The first prize will go to the first person who gets ALL of the covers correct.

    Prize #2 Random
I will then randomly select a winner from all participants. The more covers you get right, the more entries you get!

Both winners will get to choose any book they want from Amazon.com under $13.

    Here are the details:
    • Giveaway open 7/15-7/29
    • Open to ages 13 and up
    • Open to US residents only (Puerto Rico is fine)
    • You MUST have at least one cover correct to be entered
    • You must fill out THE FORM to enter
    • DO NOT LEAVE ANSWERS IN COMMENTS
    • Multiple submissions WILL NOT COUNT. If you enter more than once, only your first submission will be counted. If you're going for the 100% prize, you have to have them all at the same time. Much more challenging that way, I think.
I'm really excited to see how y'all do! I worked really hard to try and stump you!

      Surveys, prizes, authors, and more!

Do y'all remember how I mentioned that there were some freaking awesome authors coming to my area? Well of course this is a perfect opportunity to give away some books. I was having a hard time thinking of how to do it until I saw [awesome] Emily of Emily's Reading Room post a survey on her blog. This entire giveaway/survey was inspired by her.

I've been blogging for almost 4 years and I've NEVER done one of these. I think it's about time. Basically, you fill out the survey about my blog, and (if you want to) you will be entered to win your choice of one of the following five books:
      • Across the Universe, by Beth Revis
      • Nightshade, by Andrea Cremer
      • Matched, by Ally Condie
      • Kiki Strike: Inside the Shadow City, by Kirsten Miller
      • Kiki Strike: The Empress' Tomb, by Kirsten Miller
Not only will you get a copy of the book, I will get it SIGNED AND PERSONALIZED to you! Or, if you're going to be at the event, then you can just get a free book! Exciting, eh? All you have to do is fill out the survey.

Please be honest, guys. I swear I won't be mad if you don't like something. I really, truly want your opinions. If you don't want to win the book then you don't have to put your name.

      RECAP:
      • I'm asking you to fill out a survey about my blog, please be honest
      • Fill out the last section of the form to be entered to win your choice of the five books listed
      • The book will be signed and personalized to your specifications
      • Open to US only (But international peeps are WELCOME to fill out the survey)
      • Giveaway Ends 2/4 11:59pm MST
      • Winner announced 2/5

Best of 2010 Answers & Winner!

Okay, this was REALLY fun. I liked the whole "guess the cover thing" and I'm certainly going to do it again in the future. Here is the answer key, and the stats/winner are below:
      1. Across the Universe, Beth Revis (Goodreads | Amazon)
      2. Beautiful Days, Anna Godbersen (Goodreads)
      3. Haven, Kristi Cook (Goodreads | Amazon)
      4. Clarity, Kim Harrington (Goodreads | Amazon)
      5. Crossed, Ally Condie (Goodreads | Amazon)
      6. Divergent, Veronica Roth (Goodreads | Amazon)
      7. Drought, Pam Bachorz (Goodreads | Amazon)
      8. Human .4, Mike A. Lancaster (Goodreads | Amazon)
      9. Entwined, Heather Dixon (Goodreads | Amazon)
      10. The Dark and Hollow Places, Carrie Ryan (Goodreads | Amazon)
      11. Outside In, Maria V. Snyder (Goodreads | Amazon)
      12. Posession, Elana Johnson (Goodreads)
      13. The Water Wars, Cameron Stracher (Goodreads | Amazon)
      14. Unearthly, Cynthia Hand (Goodreads | Amazon)
      15. Wither, Lauren DeStefano (Goodreads | Amazon)

The one that was the most commonly missed was #10. I tried to warn y'all about that one. That is the UK cover of The Dark and Hollow Places. I featured it back in July. Many people thought it was Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma, for obvious reasons.
The next one most missed was #8 Human .4, followed closely by #2 Beautiful Days. I think I picked a really tricky peice of Beautiful Days, and not many people have heard of Human .4.

And now, the moment you've all been waiting for, the winner of 2 books of their choice from the Squeakers' Picks of 2010 is...

      Alison (LostinBelieving)

Congrats, Alison! I have e-mailed you! You have 48 hours to respond with your picks.
