I think that it is horrendous and wrong to pick a set age for people to die. Again, I think it the person's right to choose what is best for themselves. If a person reaches 80 and is in excruciating pain and has no quality of life, then they should be able to make that decision. It is scary to think that once you are older, society doesn't value you anymore and finds you disposable! These are great questions that the two of you are asking! I love the discussion and hearing other peoples opinions.

I think the idea of setting a certain age for people to die is horrifying, whether you get to live sickness-free or not. It was terribly sad reading the scene where Cassia's grandfather died - he was healthy in body and mind, and the Society basically forced him to commit suicide while his family watched. I'd rather risk facing sickness than that.

I wouldn't mind dying at 80 in a painless death. I'd be fine with it.

it depends on how you look at things but I wouldn't mind dying without pain but i would want to live at the age until i want to. As well as not knowing that i'm going to die at a certain day and time....

Well to answer your first question on how I feel if I would only have until 80 to live well I wouldn't like it at all. Just knowing when your going to die gives me chills. I would rather risk illness and have my freedom. I would not even care if I lived a shorter life just knowing that I would live out that freedom with my family will make it all worth it.

I think knowing when you would die would be absolutely horrendous. I would be one of those people who lived in a constant state of "My word, I only have 60 years left!". I like uncertainty in life, so I would struggle with that.

I would like to believe that this would never really happen. It is horrific to think that you can only live a certain amount of time. It would be too much to bear. If it were me, I would be counting down the days. I could not live in a society where I am only valuable when I am younger. It is almost saying, "You're worthless to us but we need you until you get old." That is a terrible thing.

I think even harder than knowing MY death was coming would be knowing how long my parents and other loved ones had left. My mom and dad are in their 70s. I might be able to get my mind around me only have X number of years left, but I couldn't cope with knowing when I would lose my family.

I would rather not know. Because how depressing it would be to know the day of your death. Rather, just live life with no regrets and be happy with the live you lived

I'd rather not know when I'm going to die. If I knew when I would die, then I would be dreading it my whole life. I'd never be able to have any fun. But there could be a sort of comfort in it too. Knowing you have so much time left and not have to worry about dieing from illness or anything. So it could really go wither way.

I honestly hate that. Knowing you're going to die at the age of 80? *shudders* I'm not sure what my religion is and because of that I am semi-scared of death. I would be living in fear of my 80th birthday. I would take my chances and have freedom. I mean, it's YOLO these days, right? I would take the chance and die whenever life decides it's done with me.

Plus, disease-free for 80 eighty years? HECK NO. Truth be told, I actually like being sick then overcoming it. Gives me some happiness that my immune system is capable of doing so. :D

well i would chose the sociotsy way because if you renber in crossed the farmer who was bearing the little girl asked cassie if it were true that people acuall lived up to eighty years old and she said yes.well in the society you have eighty yers to live your life without being sick thats toattally awasome to me and you death in the society will be peaceful.verses outside the soity you have a grater chance to die earler and non peacfully.also i think its absolutlly worth it.but i do not think that the society should set an age were you die it seams cuerl to me and just plain wrong.
