ABEA Day 5: The Future of Book Blogging

Today's post topic is "Ask the Experts." Where we're supposed to ask our readers our "burning" questions. I only have one that I've been thinking about for a long time:

Do you send your reviews to publishers?
How? How often? Do you just do books that they've sent you, or ones that you've purchased yourself?

Has any good come of it? Do you now have a relationship with that publisher(s)?

  1. I really need to practice my own advice more, but I would say YES, email all of your reviews to the publisher (if you can find an email address to send them to), even reviews for the books you purchased. It will help build a relationship and you may end up getting on their mailing list because of it. :)

  2. Yes sending reviews to publishers put you on their radar it seems that you are reviewing. It also opens the door to working with publishers . Thats what I think

  3. I send my reviews to the publishers that send me books only. The ones I win or purchase myself I review, and add to many sites, but do not send to the publisher.

I do have great relationships with publicists and publishers, especially Hachette Book Group. They are great to work with and rock!

  4. I noticed in the ARC of Grave Mercy that there was a mailing address and it said to send all reviews to that address. So I printed my review and mailed it. And I have no idea what came of it. :) I don't send my reviews to publishers because it is SO hard to even find the right email address.

  5. I send my reviews to those from who I've requested books. In a couple of cases I have been promised future books in the series for review aas a result.

  6. Great questions that I would love to know the answer to as well! Someone once told me any ARC you get, whether through the publisher or even won in a giveaway should have a review sent to the publisher. I have done it twice. I never heard anything back so I hope it was okay I sent them. LOL :)

  7. I heard some great advice (and I haven't any idea where it came from - but it wasn't me) to tweet the publisher with a link to your review. This is especially helpful if you don't have an email address. I've just started emailing one publisher who I have a contact for, but I haven't done the tweeting or much emailing. I'm sure it's good for the relationships.

  8. I try to email and/or tweet but I haven't noticed anything coming of it. It really is hard to keep up such a practice when there are no results. But reading these comments makes me think I should just keep trying. I can see how it would help you get noticed. They probably don't have time to browse the internet reading every single review of their books. Great question.

  9. "Do you send your reviews to publishers?"

Well, no, b/c we don't really review. We only mention books that we enjoyed, usually in the context of a theme/topic.

  10. Little late, but... I think I'm going to start doing so. At least for Vine books, because there is usually an address on them. I'd like to make some relationships with publishers, and that seems to be a good way to start. I don't know if anything will come of it -- probably not -- but it's not like it's that hard.
