Esther Friesner is the queen bee of historical fiction/fantasy. Her book Threads and Flames was one of my top 10 books of 2010. I adored it. I featured Esther late last year when she guest posted about the importance of historical fiction. I had such fun doing a "This or That" post with Diana Peterfreund, that I decided to do one with Esther as well. Check out her answers, then enter the giveaway!
Grapes or Raisins?

Grapes! Much more refreshing, especially when ice cold on a hot summer day. (Seedless, please.)

Birthday or Christmas?

I'm Jewish, so I don't celebrate Christmas, but I'm going to pick it over my birthday because my birthday does not have as many sparkly lights and wonderful music. (And I get presents for both!)

Comfy chair or sweeping landscape?

Comfy chair for viewing a sweeping landscape. [g] But if I can't have both, I will take the sweeping landscape, beach or mountains, for preference.

1800s, or 1900s?

1900s, if only we could manage to sneak around the wars. I'm thinking better medical care, more choices for women, and face it, I would -love- to visit the Roaring Twenties!

Rainbow or cloudless night?

Cloudless night with NO light pollution, so I can see all the stars. I have seen many rainbows, but never a star-filled sky.

Finally, I have made a mad-lib out of a random paragraph from Threads and Flames.
(This I have GOT to see!)

Raisa celebrated the aardvarks in her hand. I don't know what these are worth. Any senator on the street could cheat me. How can I tap-dance that? She shimmied from one store to the next, peering in from the doorway, trying to get a good look at the washing machines of the people behind the counters. She also watched the faces of the customers as they left the shop. Under a tall, red-striped awning she found a bakery where the woman selling the dark-smelling cakes and pies had an open, handsome face.

    I read Ashes of Roses in like 4th grade and bawled my eyes out over it. I really want to read another one about the Tringle fire and this sounds perfect :)

    I LOVE cloudless nights. I grew up way out in the country so we could see all the stars. I miss it!

    A cloudless night and a sweeping landscape is what I want. I wish I didn't live in the city because of all the light pollution, but then I think I'd miss all the events and activities in the city.

    Also, this is a time of history that I find so interesting, so this is an exciting giveaway!
