Help! Book advice/recommendations
Hello Squeaky friends!
So I need your help. I got quite a plethora of books for my birthday (which you will see later in this week’s IMM vlog). But of course, it isn’t enough. It will NEVER be enough! I also got some money for with which to buy books.
That’s where I need your help.
I have quite a few books that I’m considering, and I want your opinions on them. I’d also like you to recommend some that are a must-own.
Here’s what I’m considering. If you have read these, would you mind telling me what you thought? How are they in terms of profanity and sexual content? Y’all know I struggle with that.

City of Bones, by Cassandra Clare
I know this is a really popular series. But how is the profanity in it? Anyone dislike it? Anyone love it?
Toads and Diamonds, by Heather Tomlinson
I’ve wanted this one for a really long time. Has anyone read it?
Zombies vs. Unicorns
I usually get bored with anthologies. But I love Zombies. Anyone read this? Thoughts?
Is there anything else that came out recently that I’d like? Any that have been out for a while but still rock? Please! Recommendations!
I've heard only good things about City of Bones from all who have read it... and I myself am in the middle of Zombies vs. Unicorns and am LOVING it.
ReplyDeletehaven't read any of those, but I just finished Keturah and Lord Death and that was really good. No profanity or content you'd need to worry about.

I loved City of Bones and immediately ordered City of Ashes and City of Glass. I have devoured these books! I just finished City of Glass and don't remember any harsh language, but there are some references to torture in the later books that could potentially bother sensitive readers. I would still recommend this book. :)

I just finished City of Bones last week and I loved it. It has an occasional A-word and a B-word or two. I have the next book on hold at the library. I'll definitely be looking into the others as well!
ReplyDeleteCity of Bones! Of course, you'll have to get your hands on the whole series then, but it's very, very good. Profanity is not really an issue, as far as I remember.

ReplyDeleteThe Mortal Instruments Series (City of Bones) is so amazing! I love it! It does have an edgy-ish sense of humor. I'm trying to think if the F-bomb was dropped at all. I don't think it was...

ReplyDeleteI recently read Toads and Diamonds and liked it very much, mostly because of how beautifully Heather Tomlinson created her world. My only problem with it was that it ended too soon!
ReplyDeleteI LOVED City of Bones!! I'm with you on the profanity issue and everything, and I don't remember any. If there was, it was minor. I need to buy this series as well...:)
ReplyDeleteCity of Bones- but get ready to read the whole series. I spent 4 straight days of kids having easymac for dinner!! Also have you read The Hourglass Door by Lisa Mangum? Fabulous. I also love anything by Janette Rallison, Traci Abramson, Heather Justesen and Shannon Hale. New books are so exciting!!!
ReplyDeleteCity of Bones is a great read. Very little profanity and no sex. I had to immediately buy City of Ashes and City of Glass.
ReplyDeleteOne of my all time favorite books is called These is my Words. I think it's a must for every bookshelf!
I don't know why everyone loves City of Bones so much. The very beginning is interesting, as is the end, but the middle...sucks.
ReplyDeleteThe writing drove me CRAZY in COB. The author was way too concerned with having her characters be witty instead of staying true to the character. Also, Ms. Claire needs to learn how to use adverbs. How can someone "shrug philosophically?"
I've heard the series gets better...but I'm not rushing out to read it.

The only one I've read is City of Bones. I'm pretty conservative and there was language but not enough to make me put it down.
ReplyDeleteCity of Bones all the way! It's fairly clean, if I remember correctly. The story is AMAZING, as are the characters.
ReplyDeleteThe only one I've read here is COB --- I love, love, love the series. I can't recall there being any language in there that was bad or at least not too much that was over the top. No "f" word. I think the content is pretty good, too. There is violence for sure, but it's well-described without being overly graphic.
ReplyDeleteI highly recommend Nevermore by Kelly Creagh. I just finished it this week and loved it, no sex or profanity, very squeaky! Worth owning.
